Critics Consensus

Inventive, gorgeously animated, and powerfully moving, Inside Out is another outstanding addition to the Pixar library of modern animated classics.

Audience Consensus

Inside Out is the kind of movie that makes you feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, but in a good way. It’s like if your feelings had their own little personalities and were all living inside your head, and you got to watch them go on an adventure together. The animation is stunning, the writing is clever, and the voice acting is top-notch. It’s a movie that will make you laugh, cry, and maybe even learn a little something about yourself. Plus, who doesn’t love a good Pixar movie?

Storyline

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.

In the first half of the film, I was being piloted by Confusion and Dissatisfaction. But by the end, Joy was very much in charge.
