Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)

It’s not easy to take the longest Harry Potter book and streamline it into the shortest HP movie, but director David Yates does a bang up job of it, creating an Order of the Phoenix that’s entertaining and action-packed
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is like a rollercoaster ride that never ends. Danger, baddie, magic. Danger, baddie, magic. It’s like the filmmakers were trying to give us a heart attack. But hey, at least we get to see Harry and his friends rebel against the Ministry of Magic and fight for what’s right. Plus, the special effects are still as mind-blowing as ever. So, if you’re a fan of the series, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. Just make sure to bring some snacks to keep you going through all the action.

Traditional drama is usually a three-act deal: set-up, conflict, resolution. But this is the three-act deal every two minutes. Danger, baddie, magic. Danger, baddie, magic. Danger, baddie, magic. It’s as tired as it is tiresome.

By focussing the story on Harry (a leaner and slightly meaner Daniel Radcliffe) and his exploits, Yates dispenses with many of the novel’s subplots and is able to push the story forward, ominously foreshadowing the dark times to come.

Performances are more mature, the soundtrack (by Nicholas Hooper) less grandiose, and Yates executes some thrilling set-pieces.

Clearly serving as an overly dependent middle section of the franchise, this is one of the more forgettable installments.

The fifth Potter picture is one of the lesser entries in the series: way too rushed, and a mite too dour.

Plot
This is the tale of Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), an ordinary eleven-year-old boy serving as a sort of slave for his aunt and uncle who learns that he is actually a wizard and has been invited to attend the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is snatched away from his mundane existence by Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), the groundskeeper for Hogwarts, and quickly thrown into a world completely foreign to both him and the viewer. Famous for an incident that happened at his birth, Harry makes friends easily at his new school. He soon finds, however, that the wizarding world is far more dangerous for him than he would have imagined, and he quickly learns that not all wizards are ones to be trusted.
