Critics Consensus

Exit Through the Gift Shop is a tour de force of the street art world, a film that not only captures the elusive and often misunderstood nature of the art form, but also manages to be a witty and entertaining exploration of the creative process. Banksy proves himself to be a master of both the spray can and the movie camera, weaving together a narrative that is both provocative and absorbing. The film raises important questions about what constitutes art, the power of hype to triumph over talent, and the nature of art as commodity. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in street art or the art world, and a testament to the enduring power of creativity and imagination.

Audience Consensus

Exit Through the Gift Shop is like a wild ride through the world of street art, with Banksy as our guide. It’s a documentary that’s both informative and hilarious, with plenty of sarcastic quips from the elusive artist himself. Watching the creative process of these street artists is fascinating, and the film raises some thought-provoking questions about the nature of art and its value. Plus, there are plenty of tag-and-run moments that will have you laughing out loud. Overall, it’s a must-see for anyone interested in street art or the art world in general.

It’s light and playful, it’s interesting to see how these elusive street artists work, and it’s also satisfying to hear Banksy speak (even if his voice is disguised) because it turns out he’s sarcastic and humorous as hell (of course).

The plain fact is that, on some level, it doesn’t matter whether the film is true or not. Either way, it’s fascinating. Either way, we learn a lot. Either way, it’s a great film.

It’s endlessly arguable and open for debate. At the very least, we can all agree that Banksy has found a new wall on which to plaster his art — that of the silver screen.

It is a very well made, good archival material for street art movement, with a lot of humor: the guerrilla style, tag-and-run aesthetic brings a lot of funny, entertaining moments. It also questions the nature of art and art as commodity
