Easy A (2010)
RT Audience Score:
Awards & Nominations: 9 wins & 21 nominations
It owes a huge debt to older (and better) teen comedies, but Easy A proves a smart, witty showcase for its irresistibly charming star, Emma Stone
Easy A is like a breath of fresh air in the teen comedy genre. It’s not going to be a classic like some of the greats, but it’s still a fun and sassy movie that will make you laugh. Emma Stone shines in her role and it’s easy to see why this could have been a star-making performance for her. The script is smart and full of witty dialogue that will have you quoting it for days. It’s a great movie to watch with friends and just enjoy the ride. So, give it an A- or a B+, but just make sure you give it a chance.

While Easy A might not be remembered ten years from now like such films as Pretty in Pink, Pretty Woman, and Boomerang, but it’s still a refreshing addition to today’s genre.

The script shrewdly boosts its IQ by working in parallels to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter and piling on 80s teen movie references.

Like most other teen comedies before it, it may be a complete flight of fancy when compared to the real American high school experience, but nevertheless it’s smart, funny and totally endearing.

This is a smart and funny film that works largely due to Stone… giving a performance that is full of sass and spunk, but also sweet and kind of vulnerable.
