Marcel Carné was a French film director known for his poetic realism style of filmmaking. He was born on August 18, 1906, in Paris, France, and began his career in the film industry as an assistant director in the 1920s. Carné’s most famous films include “Le Jour se Lève” (1939), “Les Enfants Terribles” (1950), and “Les Portes de la Nuit” (1946). He was a prominent figure in French cinema during the 1930s and 1940s and was a member of the French Resistance during World War II. Carné died on October 31, 1996, in Clamart, France, at the age of 90.
