    Jirí Menzel is a Czech film director, screenwriter, and actor. He was born on February 23, 1938, in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Menzel is best known for his work in the Czech New Wave movement of the 1960s, particularly his film “Closely Watched Trains,” which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1968. He has directed over 20 films and has won numerous awards for his work. Menzel continues to work in the film industry and is considered one of the most important Czech directors of all time.
