István Szabó is a Hungarian film director, screenwriter, and actor. He was born on February 18, 1938, in Budapest, Hungary. Szabó is best known for his films Mephisto (1981), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and Being Julia (2004), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. He has directed over 20 films and has won numerous awards throughout his career. Szabó is considered one of the most important Hungarian filmmakers of the 20th century.
