Plot
With the vivid memory of his long-gone childhood friends Max, Patsy, and Cockeye etched in his mind, his ferociously loyal partners-in-crime during their rise to prominence in New York’s Prohibition-era Lower East Side, the defeated, penniless, and guilt-ridden former gangster David “Noodles” Aaronson returns to Manhattan. Not knowing what to expect on his mission to shed light on his opaque past, grizzled Noodles reunites with his only living friend Fat Moe after 35 haunted years of self-exile. However, the relentless, piercing sound of culpability stands in the way of finding closure, as the inscrutable content of a well-worn leather suitcase further complicates matters. And now, against the backdrop of a torn conscience, the sad, bittersweet recollections of more than 50 years of love, death, and everything in-between become inextricably intertwined, leading to even more puzzling questions. But what are a man’s options when he is left with nothing?

Star Trek III – The Search for Spock (1984)
RT Audience Score: 61%
Awards & Nominations: 1 win & 7 nominations
Though it may be short on dazzling special effects, The Search for Spock is still a strong Star Trek installment, thanks to affecting performances by its iconic cast
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is the perfect movie for Trekkies and non-Trekkies alike. It’s got action, adventure, and even a little bit of romance (bromance, that is). Sure, the special effects may not be up to par with today’s standards, but who needs fancy CGI when you’ve got William Shatner’s over-the-top acting? And let’s not forget about Leonard Nimoy’s directing skills – he takes the franchise to new heights (literally, there’s a lot of space travel in this one). So grab some popcorn, sit back, and enjoy the ride – just don’t forget to live long and prosper.

Though heavy with sentiment, The Natural is an irresistible classic, and a sincere testament to America’s national pastime
If you’re looking for a movie that will make you feel like you’re at the ballpark, The Natural is a home run. Sure, some critics might say it’s a little too mythic or simple, but who cares when you’ve got Robert Redford hitting balls into the lights? Plus, the period design is so good, you’ll feel like you’re in the 1930s. So grab some peanuts and Cracker Jacks and settle in for a classic sports movie that’s got heart, integrity, and a whole lot of drama.

Hijinks ensue as a mild-mannered bank teller releases these hideous loonies after gaining a new pet and violating two of three simple rules: No water (violated), no food after midnight (violated), and no bright light. Plot
Joan Wilder, a mousy romance novelist, receives a treasure map in the mail from her recently murdered brother-in-law. Meanwhile, her sister Elaine is kidnapped in Colombia and the two criminals responsible demand that she travel to Colombia to exchange the map for her sister. Joan does, and quickly becomes lost in the jungle after being waylayed by Zolo, a vicious and corrupt Colombian cop who will stop at nothing to obtain the map. There, she meets an irreverent soldier-of-fortune named Jack Colton who agrees to bring her back to civilization. Together, they embark upon an adventure that could be straight out of Joan’s novels.

As bizarrely hilarious as it is insightful, Finders Keepers is a stranger-than-fiction gem of a documentary that transcends its oddball trappings
Finders Keepers is the kind of documentary that makes you wonder how on earth someone came up with this idea. Two men fighting over a severed leg? It sounds like a joke, but it’s a real story that’s both hilarious and heartwarming. The filmmakers did an excellent job of finding the humanity in this absurd situation, and the result is a film that’s as delightful as it is bizarre. It’s definitely worth a watch, even if you’re not a fan of documentaries. Who knew taxidermy could be so touching?

Repo Man is many things: an alien-invasion film, a punk-rock musical, a send-up of consumerism. One thing it isn’t is boring
Repo Man” is a wild ride that’s part punk rock, part sci-fi, and all kinds of weird. It’s like if “Mad Max” and “The X-Files” had a baby and that baby grew up to be Emilio Estevez. The movie is full of churlish unpleasantness, but it’s also got a core of genuine anger that makes it more than just a flabby American comedy. Plus, the punk soundtrack is killer. If you’re looking for a movie that’s off the beaten path, “Repo Man” is the way to go.

Sergio Leone’s epic crime drama is visually stunning, stylistically bold, and emotionally haunting, and filled with great performances from the likes of Robert De Niro and James Woods.
Once Upon a Time in America is like a never-ending storybook, but instead of fairy tales, it’s filled with gangsters, violence, and betrayal. It’s like a Scorsese film on steroids, with a runtime that could rival a Lord of the Rings marathon. But don’t let that scare you away, because Sergio Leone’s final masterpiece is a cinematic journey that’s worth every minute. The cinematography is stunning, the score is hauntingly beautiful, and the performances are top-notch. It’s a complex and layered story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, even if you need a few bathroom breaks along the way. So grab some popcorn, settle in, and get ready for a wild ride through the dark underbelly of America’s criminal underworld.

Loveless is a film that will leave you feeling, well, loveless. But in the best way possible! This dark and haunting thriller takes you on a journey through the broken promises of an empire and the emotional malaise of the middle class. The performances are subtle yet wrenching, and the director’s dissection of Russian society is nothing short of riveting. It’s a bleak depiction of modern-day Russia, but one that is successful on numerous fronts. So, if you’re in the mood for a taut, realistic, and brutally honest thriller, Loveless deserves a spot on your watchlist. Just don’t expect any easy resolutions!

The director may be a master at setting a mood, but his insights here don’t cut especially deep.

An emotionally stark indictment of middle class malaise and the broken promises of an empire, Loveless is one of the best films you’ll see this year.

It’s a kind of thriller, but without easy resolution. Zvyagintsev does not deal in reassurance: there is none to be had in this cold, hard place.

Is this what Russia is really like today? Obviously there’s more to it than this, but this cold yet extremely gifted director’s dissection of his society is never less than riveting.

All three leads give subtly wrenching performances that wouldn’t have been out of place in Ingmar Bergman’s oeuvre.

Loveless is about a state of mind, a lament, an indictment of crimes against the human spirit.

Zvyagintsev’s eulogy to humanity lost (…) an absence, rather than a presence. A dark jewel, which, when observed against the light, shows no reflection.

This bleak depiction of modern day Russia is successful on numerous fronts, from being both a searing comment on the deep dissatisfaction that resides in the Russian public and as a thriller the likes of Fincher would be proud of.

Plot
It’s circa 1959/1960 in the rural American south. A group of six bikers is heading to Daytona to watch the races, they having made plans to convene at a prearranged stop along Hwy. 17 so that they can ride down together. That stop – a town where no one would make the conscious decision to live – could be mistaken solely for a truck stop in being a proverbial blip along the road. Their stay is extended for what is estimated to be a day when one them, Hurley, has to make necessary repairs to his motorcycle, this delay which doesn’t sit well with many of the other five in having to endure the boredom of the town. While some of the townsfolk they encounter see them as an injection of excitement in what is otherwise a proverbial backwater, most consider them no better than animals in not wanting to deal with them at all. One of the townsfolk, teenage Telena, hooks up with one of the bikers, Vance, she already used to danger of a different kind in being the daughter of an abusive father, wealthy widowed Tarver, who in some respects rules the town in regulating the flow of oil to the local service station. While many of the encounters between the bikers and the townsfolk have the potential to be explosive, it is that between Vance and Telena which may be the one, if any, to set off the fuse to the powder keg.
