Charles Laughton was a British actor and director, born on July 1, 1899, in Scarborough, England. He began his career as a stage actor before transitioning to film in the 1930s. Laughton is best known for his roles in films such as “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (1939) and “Mutiny on the Bounty” (1935), for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. In addition to acting, Laughton also directed one film, “The Night of the Hunter” (1955), which is now considered a classic of American cinema. Laughton died on December 15, 1962, in Hollywood, California.
