Bryan G. Stevenson is an American lawyer, social justice advocate, and professor of law at New York University School of Law. He is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit organization that provides legal representation to people who have been illegally convicted, unfairly sentenced, or abused in state jails and prisons. Stevenson has won numerous awards for his work, including the MacArthur Fellowship, the American Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Award, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Spingarn Medal. He is also the author of the bestselling book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.
