Critics Consensus

Bullet Train’s colorful cast and high-speed action are almost enough to keep things going after the story runs out of track.

Audience Consensus

It could have been a more entertaining ride, but if you’re in the mood for a decent thriller to pass the time, Bullet Train will get you where you want to go.

BULLET TRAIN All Critics (279) | Top Critics (68) | Fresh (149) | Rotten (130) The largely entertaining action flick Bullet Train rolls along on the power of Brad Pitt’s megawatt charisma – and sometimes on that alone.  August 12, 2022 | Rating: 3/5  Wenlei Ma News.com.au TOP CRITIC Bullet Train certainly serves the Brad Pitt brand, but it’s too weak to deliver him to a new destination.  August 11, 2022  Shirley Li The Atlantic TOP CRITIC This film adaptation, by screenwriter Zak Olkewicz, is a blessing and a curse. It creates, builds and lights the fuse on this Molotov cocktail. But the script’s overabundance of characters, dips in momentum and protracted ending don’t help.  August 10, 2022 | Rating: 3/4  Dwight Brown DwightBrownInk.com TOP CRITIC Bullet Train is infuriatingly pleased with itself. And ground zero for this implosion of self-satisfaction is Pitt.  August 7, 2022 | Rating: 2/5  Wendy Ide Observer (UK) TOP CRITIC The plot is a tagliatelle of insubstantiality. Just assume that everyone is set to double-cross everyone else. The dialogue, alas, dwells far too much in the pop-culture miasma that may be Quentin Tarantino’s most regrettable gift to the culture.  August 7, 2022 | Rating: 2/5  Donald Clarke Irish Times TOP CRITIC There’s a time and a place for mayhem, and that’s essentially what Bullet Train is: two hours of fights, carnage, and witty repartee.  August 6, 2022 | Rating: 3/4  James Berardinelli ReelViews TOP CRITIC … basically a fun but predictable video game.  August 13, 2022  Josh Davis Pop Culture Leftovers It’s a fun ride to be sure, but an uneven one that nearly squanders such a talented ensemble.  August 12, 2022 | Rating: 2/4  Tom Meek Cambridge Day Don’t let the glossy trailers fool you — Brad Pitt’s new action comedy, Bullet Train, is a strenuous and leaden film that never takes off.  August 12, 2022  Eileen Jones The Jacobin A fun movie that was just one script element and one plot point too much for itself.  August 12, 2022  Terence Johnson Le Noir Auteur Sure it is a little long and sometimes a little too cute for its own good, but ultimately it delivers on exactly what it sets out to do — giving the audience a blood-soaked good time with a lot of laughs mixed in.  August 12, 2022 | Rating: B  Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News Even though Bullet Train mistakes style for substance, it has the good sense to look awesome.  August 12, 2022  Abby Olcese The Pitch…

Trivia

Goofs / Tidbits
On a couple of occasions the train is shown taking rather tight turns at a high rate of speed. The N700 Shinkansen travelling at cruising speed (250 kph) needs a radius of 2500 meters to remain safe and stable.
