Fascinating documentary about the militant Weathermen.
If you’re looking for a documentary that will make you question everything you thought you knew about the 60s and 70s, then The Weather Underground is the one for you. With interviews from former members of the radical group, you’ll get a glimpse into their motivations and actions, and maybe even find yourself sympathizing with them (just don’t go blowing up any buildings, okay?). Plus, the filmmakers don’t shy away from showing the group’s mistakes and follies, so you’ll get a well-rounded view of the whole situation. Overall, it’s a thought-provoking and fascinating look at a tumultuous time in American history.

Directors Sam Green and Bill Siegel expertly limn the forces that gave rise to Weatherman and clearly sympathize with the group’s motivations. At the same time, they don’t stint on Weatherman’s follies.

Whose side the documentarians are on is never clear — in a muddy rather than an ambiguous way. Did anyone die from the Weathermen’s bombings? We don’t find out here.

The most striking feature of the film … is the banality of the political conceptions held by the members of the Weathermen and Weather Underground.
