Walter Wanger was an American film producer and executive who was active in the Hollywood film industry from the 1920s to the 1960s. He is best known for producing films such as Stagecoach (1939), The Lady Eve (1941), and The Apartment (1960). He was also a major force in the establishment of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Wanger was a passionate advocate for the rights of filmmakers and was a key figure in the development of the Production Code, which regulated the content of films released in the US. He was also a major supporter of the Hollywood blacklist, which sought to prevent those suspected of communist sympathies from working in the film industry.
