Jane Campion is an Academy Award-winning New Zealand screenwriter, producer, and director. She is the first and only female filmmaker to win the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, for her 1993 film The Piano. Campion is also the first woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director, for her 2003 film In the Cut. Her other notable works include An Angel at My Table (1990), The Portrait of a Lady (1996), and Bright Star (2009). Campion is a major figure in the New Zealand film industry, and her work has been praised for its feminist themes and unique visual style.
