Herman J. Mankiewicz was an American screenwriter, playwright, and producer. He is best known for co-writing the screenplay for the classic film Citizen Kane (1941). He was nominated for four Academy Awards and won two for his work on the film. He also wrote the screenplay for The Wizard of Oz (1939) and wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for several other films, including The Pride of the Yankees (1942), The Big Street (1942), and A Letter to Three Wives (1949). He was also a producer on several films, including The Pride of the Yankees and A Letter to Three Wives.
