Alan J. Pakula was an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He was best known for his work in the 1970s, including the political thriller All the President’s Men (1976), the legal drama Klute (1971), and the conspiracy thriller The Parallax View (1974). He was nominated for three Academy Awards, winning the Best Adapted Screenplay for To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). He also directed the romantic comedy Starting Over (1979) and the romantic drama Sophie’s Choice (1982). He died in a car accident in 1998.
