Dwight MacDonald (1906-1982) was an American film critic, essayist, and political activist. He was a prominent figure in the New York intellectual scene of the 1940s and 1950s, and was known for his wit and acerbic critiques of popular culture. He wrote for a variety of publications, including Partisan Review, The New Yorker, and Esquire. He was also a founding member of the anti-Stalinist organization, the Congress for Cultural Freedom.
