    Robert Rossen was an American screenwriter, film director, and producer. He was born on March 16, 1908, in New York City and died on February 18, 1966, in Hollywood, California. Rossen is best known for his work on films such as “All the King’s Men” (1949), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and “The Hustler” (1961), which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. He was also a member of the Communist Party in the 1940s and was blacklisted during the McCarthy era.
