Robert Hamer was a British film director, best known for his work on the classic Ealing comedies of the 1940s and 1950s. He was born in 1911 and began his career as a screenwriter before moving into directing. Hamer’s most famous films include “Kind Hearts and Coronets” (1949), “The Lavender Hill Mob” (1951), and “School for Scoundrels” (1960). He struggled with alcoholism throughout his career and died in 1963 at the age of 52.
