Jûzô Itami was a Japanese movie director, screenwriter, and actor. He was born on May 15, 1933, in Kyoto, Japan. Itami started his career as an actor in the 1960s and later transitioned to directing in the 1980s. He is best known for his satirical comedies, including “Tampopo” (1985) and “A Taxing Woman” (1987). Itami’s films often tackled social issues and criticized the Japanese government and society. He died on December 20, 1997, in Tokyo, Japan, in an apparent suicide.
