George Seaton (1911-1979) was an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. He began his career as a playwright before transitioning to Hollywood in the 1940s. Seaton is best known for directing and writing the classic Christmas film “Miracle on 34th Street” (1947), which won him an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. He also directed and wrote the screenplay for “The Country Girl” (1954), which earned him another Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Seaton’s other notable films include “Airport” (1970) and “The Big Lift” (1950).
