Alberto Cavalcanti (1897-1982) was a Brazilian-born film director and screenwriter. He began his career in the French film industry in the 1920s, working as an assistant director to Jean Renoir and directing his own films. In the 1930s, he moved to England and worked for the Ealing Studios, where he directed several acclaimed films, including “Went the Day Well?” and “Dead of Night.” He later returned to Brazil and continued to work in the film industry until his death in 1982.
