Willi Ninja (1961-2006) was a legendary dancer, choreographer, and fashion designer. He was a pioneer of voguing, a dance style that originated in the Harlem ballroom scene of the late 1980s. He was featured in the documentary Paris Is Burning and appeared in the music video for Madonna’s “Vogue.” He was also a mentor to many of the dancers featured in the hit TV show, So You Think You Can Dance. He was an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and a leader in the ballroom scene. He passed away in 2006 at the age of 45.
