Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor, director, and producer. He was widely considered to be one of the greatest actors of his generation, and was known for his versatility and naturalistic performances. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 2005 film Capote. He also received three Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in Charlie Wilson’s War, Doubt, and The Master. Hoffman was found dead in his New York City apartment in February 2014 due to an accidental drug overdose. He was 46 years old.
