Paul Winfield (1939-2004) was an American actor who was known for his roles in films such as Sounder, The Terminator, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Sounder and won an Emmy Award for his performance in the television movie King. He was also known for his work on television, appearing in shows such as Roots, The Waltons, and The Jeffersons. Winfield was a pioneer in the industry, becoming one of the first African-American actors to be cast in a leading role in a major motion picture. He was also an advocate for civil rights and social justice.
