Leopold Stokowski (1882-1977) was a renowned British-American conductor and composer. He was the chief conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra for nearly three decades and was known for his innovative use of orchestral color and his pioneering work in recording music. He was also a major influence on the development of the modern symphony orchestra. Stokowski was a prolific recording artist, making over 120 recordings with the Philadelphia Orchestra alone. He also conducted the music for the 1940 Disney film Fantasia.
