Jeanne Moreau was a French actress, singer, screenwriter, and director who achieved international recognition for her performances in films such as Jules et Jim, Elevator to the Gallows, and The Bride Wore Black. She was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress for Seven Days… Seven Nights and the César Award for Best Supporting Actress for The Old Lady Who Walked in the Sea. Moreau was also a vocal advocate for women’s rights and was a member of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. She died in 2017 at the age of 89.
