Howard Zinn (1922-2010) was an American historian, political scientist, social critic, activist, and playwright. He wrote the classic A People’s History of the United States, which has sold over two million copies. He was a professor of political science at Boston University for 24 years and was an active participant in the civil rights and anti-war movements. He was also a vocal critic of U.S. foreign policy and the military-industrial complex. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lannan Literary Award for Nonfiction and the Eugene V. Debs Award for his contributions to the labor movement.
