Godfrey Tearle (1884-1953) was an English stage and film actor. He was best known for his roles in Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps (1935) and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934). He also appeared in films such as The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934), The Private Life of Henry VIII (1933), and The Ghost Train (1931). He was a popular stage actor in London’s West End, appearing in many productions of Shakespeare and other classic plays. He was knighted in 1948 for his services to the theatre.
