George Devine (1909-1966) was an English theatre director and co-founder of the English Stage Company. He was a major figure in the development of modern British theatre, and was responsible for introducing the works of many of the most important playwrights of the 20th century, including Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter, and John Osborne. He was also a major influence on the development of the Royal Court Theatre, which he helped to establish in 1956. Devine was awarded a CBE in 1964 for his services to the theatre.
