Angela Davis is an American political activist, scholar, and author. She emerged as a prominent counterculture activist and radical in the 1960s as a leader of the Communist Party USA and had close relations with the Black Panther Party through her involvement in the Civil Rights Movement. Davis is a professor emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she is a professor of the History of Consciousness and of Feminist Studies. She is the author of nine books and has lectured throughout the world. Her work as an educator, activist, and public intellectual has been central to the development of a new generation of scholars and activists.
