RT Audience Score: 90%
Awards & Nominations: Won 3 Primetime Emmys

Examining the intricacies of global scandal through one haunting case, Mea Maxima Culpa is an impassioned and meticulous exposé on abuses of power and institutional sin.
If you’re looking for a documentary that will make you want to scream at the screen, Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God is the one for you. This film is a gut-wrenching look at the Catholic Church’s cover-up of sexual abuse by priests, and it will leave you feeling angry, sad, and maybe even a little bit sick. But despite the heavy subject matter, director Alex Gibney manages to infuse the film with a sense of hope, thanks to the bravery of the victims who come forward to tell their stories. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s an important one.

It’s messy, overlong, and a touch melodramatic, but those flaws pale before Incendies’ impressive acting and devastating emotional impact.
Incendies is like a rollercoaster ride, but instead of loops and drops, it’s emotional twists and turns. The film takes you on a journey through a tormented family’s past and present, and just when you think you have it all figured out, it throws you for a loop. The performances are top-notch, especially Lubna Azabal’s fearless portrayal of a woman searching for answers about her family’s history. It’s not an easy watch, but it’s definitely worth it for the payoff at the end. Just make sure you have some tissues handy.

Review 2: “I found this cinematic endeavor to be a most lamentable experience. Review 3: “This movie was a complete waste of time. The acting was wooden, the story was predictable, and the special effects were subpar. Save yourself the trouble and skip this one.”
Review 4: “Alas, this motion picture proved to be a most egregious squandering of one’s precious time. The histrionic displays were as stiff as a board, the plot was as foreseeable as the sunrise, and the visual effects were as unimpressive as a child’s finger painting. I implore you, dear reader, to abstain from this cinematic atrocity.”
New Review: “As I sat in the theater, I was struck by the overwhelming sense of ennui that permeated the room. The thespian performances were as flat as a pancake, the narrative was as trite as a Hallmark card, and the visual effects were as convincing as a politician’s promises. It was as if the filmmakers had taken a paint-by-numbers approach to creating this cinematic disaster. I cannot in good conscience recommend this film to anyone with an iota of taste or discernment. Save your time and money, and opt for a more stimulating activity, such as watching paint dry or grass grow.

Driven by populist fury and elevated by strong direction, powerful acting, and an intelligent script, Network’s searing satire of ratings-driven news remains sadly relevant more than four decades later.
If you’re looking for a movie that will make you question the ethics of the media and leave you feeling a little bit uneasy, Network is the perfect pick. With a cast of brilliant actors, including Faye Dunaway in a show-stopping role, this film is a savage attack on the television industry that still feels relevant today. Sure, the plot might be a little bit crazy, but that’s part of what makes it so entertaining. And if you’re a fan of self-conscious theatrics and steady direction, you won’t be disappointed. So grab some popcorn and settle in for a wild ride with Network.

A powerful and personal account of war on the front line, writer-director Samuel Maoz takes the viewer inside an Israeli tank to deliver an exhausting, original film.
Lebanon is like a rollercoaster ride, but instead of loops and drops, it’s a ride through the horrors of war. The film is a raw and unflinching look at the chaos and moral compromises that come with modern warfare. You can practically smell the sweat and diesel fuel, taste the metallic tang of explosive fumes, and feel the pressure of men cracking under the intense physical and psychological strain. It’s not a feel-good movie, but it’s an important one that defies the conventions of the war genre and leaves a lasting impact.

Exit Through the Gift Shop is a tour de force of the street art world, a film that not only captures the elusive and often misunderstood nature of the art form, but also manages to be a witty and entertaining exploration of the creative process. Banksy proves himself to be a master of both the spray can and the movie camera, weaving together a narrative that is both provocative and absorbing. The film raises important questions about what constitutes art, the power of hype to triumph over talent, and the nature of art as commodity. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in street art or the art world, and a testament to the enduring power of creativity and imagination.

… hasn’t the credentials of Dog Day Afternoon or The French Connection but this ingenious crime caper / hostage drama is one of the great New York crime films of the 1970s.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil (2009)
RT Audience Score: 90%
Awards & Nominations: 23 wins & 21 nominations
A touching, uplifting and inspirational rockumentary about an aging metal band, both hilarious and heart-warming in equal measure.
Anvil! The Story of Anvil is like a real-life Spinal Tap, but with more heart and less hair. This documentary follows the ups and downs of a Canadian metal band that never quite made it big, but never gave up on their dreams. It’s funny, touching, and a reminder that success isn’t always measured by fame and fortune. Plus, there’s plenty of cursing, so it’s not for the faint of heart. Rock on, Anvil!

While it’s undoubtedly comical and touching, a pall of middle-aged gloom hovers over the antics of Canada’s longest surviving death metal band.

The music, heard in economical proportions, is secondary to the unexpectedly deep bond between its creators. Their story is an underdog’s triumph that’s difficult to deny.

This Is Spinal Tap was a mockumentary, but this is for real, a portrait of a band that was very influential on later metal bands, like Metallica, but who found the big time elusive.

Indeed, the movie turns out to be as much about teenage dreams and middle-aged male friendship as it is about music, which means, fortunately, that you don’t have to be a metalhead to enjoy it.
