La Civil (2023)
RT Audience Score:
Awards & Nominations: NA
La Civil is a film that delves into the dark and violent world of Mexican cartels, and it does so with a level of authenticity that is both impressive and terrifying. The film’s quiet and introspective scenes serve to heighten the tension of its sporadic moments of violence, making them all the more powerful. Arcelia Ramírez’s portrayal of a mother seeking justice for her abducted daughter is nothing short of breathtaking, and her character’s moral complexity adds a layer of depth to the story that is unusual in this type of film. While some critics have found fault with the film’s lukewarm and unrealistic ending, it is undeniable that La Civil is a gripping and powerful drama that offers a nuanced portrait of the culture of violence that has come to define modern Mexico.
La Civil” is a movie that will have you on the edge of your seat, but don’t worry, you won’t fall off because the tension will keep you glued there. The story of a mother’s quest for justice in a corrupt system is both heart-wrenching and thrilling. Arcelia Ramirez’s performance is so good, you’ll forget you’re watching a movie and start rooting for her like she’s a real person. The violence is brutal, but it’s not gratuitous, and it serves to highlight the dangers of taking justice into your own hands. Overall, “La Civil” is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good thriller with a side of social commentary.

Part memoir, part ode to the power of the movies, The Fabelmans finds Steven Spielberg digging at the family roots that helped make him a beloved filmmaker — and proves he hasn’t lost his magic touch.
If you’re a fan of Steven Spielberg, you’re in for a treat with his latest flick, The Fabelmans. It’s like a mixtape of his life story and a love letter to the movies that made him who he is today. And let me tell you, the man’s still got it.
The movie takes us on a journey through Spielberg’s childhood, with all the ups and downs that come with growing up in a family of misfits. But it’s not all doom and gloom – there are plenty of laughs to be had along the way.
What I loved most about The Fabelmans is how it captures the magic of the movies. Spielberg has always been a master at creating unforgettable cinematic moments, and this movie is no exception. From the sweeping landscapes to the intimate family scenes, every shot is a work of art.
But don’t worry, this isn’t some pretentious art-house film. The Fabelmans is accessible and entertaining, with a cast of characters that you can’t help but root for. It’s the kind of movie that will make you laugh, cry, and feel all the feels.
So if you’re looking for a movie that will transport you to another world and remind you of the power of storytelling, The Fabelmans is a must-see. Spielberg may be getting older, but he’s still one of the greatest filmmakers of our time.

Plot
A veteran civil servant and bureaucratic cog in the rebuilding of Britain post-WWII, Williams expertly pushes paperwork around a government office only to reckon with his existence when he’s diagnosed with a fatal illness. A widower, he conceals the condition from his grown son, spends an evening of debauchery with a bohemian writer in Brighton, and uncharacteristically avoids his office. But after a vivacious former co-worker, Margaret, inspires him to find meaning in his remaining days, Williams attempts to salvage a modest building project from bureaucratic purgatory. Based on the 1952 film classic, “Ikiru,” written by Akira Kurosawa, Shinobu Hashimoto and Hideo Oguni.

Juniper (2023)
RT Audience Score: 86%
Awards & Nominations: NA
Juniper, the latest film from director Matthew Saville, has received mixed reviews from critics. While some praise the film’s personal details and production design, others criticize its slow pacing and lack of authentic emotion. However, one thing that all critics seem to agree on is the standout performance from Charlotte Rampling, who brings a refreshing tartness to the film and elevates it from sinking into gooey sentimentality. Rampling’s indomitable presence and deep-set eyes are showcased in this film, and filmmakers should continue to do so for as long as she’s working. Overall, Juniper may not be groundbreaking, but it’s worth watching for Rampling’s performance alone.
“Juniper” may not be the most groundbreaking film out there, but it’s worth watching just for Charlotte Rampling’s performance. She brings a refreshing tartness to the film that keeps it from being too sentimental. The story may be familiar, but the relationship between the odd couple is what makes it interesting. Plus, at only 94 minutes, it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Overall, “Juniper” is a solid film that’s worth checking out, especially if you’re a fan of Rampling’s indomitable presence and deep-set eyes.

Cat Daddies is a delightful and heartwarming documentary that showcases the unique bond between men and their feline companions. While some critics may find fault in the lack of a clear thesis statement or character development, the film’s genuine adoration for its subjects shines through. Director Hoang’s effort to expand the definition of masculinity is both noble and successful, as the stories of these nine cat-loving men prove that it’s an outdated stereotype to think that cat people are mostly women. Through entertaining and captivating stories, Cat Daddies shows how humans and cats enrich each other’s lives, and even the sternest, dog-loving viewers among us will find their hearts warmed by this charming film.
Cat Daddies is the purrfect documentary for anyone who loves cats or just wants to see some adorable feline friends. The film follows nine men and their furry companions, showcasing the unique bond between humans and their pets. While some critics found the film lacking in depth, we think it’s a heartwarming and entertaining look at the joys of cat ownership. Plus, who can resist those cute little faces? Whether you’re a cat person or not, Cat Daddies is sure to leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Uneven yet ultimately hard to resist, Joe Wright’s Cyrano puts a well-acted musical spin on the oft-adapted classic tale.
Cyrano” may start off a bit rough, but stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful and emotional story of love and acceptance. And let’s be real, Peter Dinklage as Cyrano is worth the price of admission alone. The songs may not be the strongest, but the film’s malleability and ability to adapt to different genres is a testament to the enduring power of the source material. Plus, who doesn’t love a good swashbuckler? Overall, “Cyrano” is a generous shot of love and a much-needed escape from the mediocrity of big-budget productions.

Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché is a must-watch for anyone who wants to learn about the punk rock scene and the woman who broke barriers in it. What ensues is a film that isn’t interested in planting seeds for future Marvel movies — which is actually a refreshing change of pace.

Almost completely lacking in Black Widow is any sense of outrage over the grotesque violations of human rights and human dignity at the root of the whole premise of the film.

While humour is an important part of the film, it’s used to serve the tragic story rather than undercut it.

Black Widow represents the MCU looking back when it should be moving forward. Everything about the movie seems small, even the big action set-pieces

More women is its only decent idea. Otherwise, it’s business as usual. Otherwise, it’s all formulaic bish-bosh, smash-crash action scenes broken up by lame jokes and lame philosophising along the lines of: “Your pain only makes you stronger.”

Shortland does a solid job with the material, but even she isn’t able to entirely gloss over how Natasha randomly keeps disappearing in her own movie or how what is supposed to be her story frequently focuses on other characters.

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow was too little, too late for the MCU’s most popular female character…

A lukewarm farewell to a character who never got to take center stage when she deserved to, and this film feels too-little, too late as a result.

BLACK WIDOW is Marvels take on a somewhat silly, over-the-top retro Bond movie. Certainly not great cinematic art, but really entertaining and with a wonderful cast.

While far from being one of the best installments of the MCU, Black Widow is still a fairly decent outing, propelled by spirited performances by Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pughs characters.

A Marvel film that is happy to be its own self-contained adventure. If this came in the build-up to Infinity War, it might have got lost in the shuffle. However, after two years away from the big screen, Johansson brings the universe back with style.

For fans who simply want to see this character one more time on the big screen getting her long-deserved moment, the film delivers perfectly adequately.
