In South Central Los Angeles, street cops Brian and Mike are partners – balls-out cowboys patrolling the streets as Latino gangs are in a power struggle with Blacks. Brian and Mike get lucky a couple of times, making big drug and human-trafficking busts, so a Mexican cartel orders their deaths. We meet Mike’s pregnant wife (whom he married out of high school) and watch Brian’s search for a soul mate. There are internal squabbles within the ranks of the LAPD and lots of squad-car conversation. Can the lads escape the cartel’s murderous reach?

Farewell, My Queen transcends its gaudy period trappings to offer an affecting historical drama built on timeless – and timely – themes
Farewell, My Queen” is like a fancy cake that you can’t stop eating, even though you know you’ll regret it later. The movie is full of political intrigue, beautiful costumes, and captivating performances. Diane Kruger is especially delicious as Marie Antoinette, playing her with just the right amount of flightiness and self-indulgence. The film may not be historically accurate, but who cares when it’s this much fun? Let them eat cake, indeed!

Dark Horse offers a thoroughly crowd-pleasing look at an incredible — and inspirational — real-life story that will thrill equine enthusiasts and novices alike
Dark Horse is a movie about a horse that defies all odds and becomes a champion. But let’s be real, the real star of the show is the horse’s quirky and lovable owner, Jan. She’s like the horse whisperer, but with a thick Welsh accent and a love for betting on the ponies. The movie is heartwarming and inspiring, but also has some hilarious moments, like when Jan tries to teach the horse to dance. Overall, Dark Horse is a must-watch for anyone who loves animals, underdog stories, and Welsh accents.

Plot
Darius is a young intern at a Seattle-based magazine and jumps at the chance to investigate the author of a classified ad seeking someone to travel back in time with. Along with Jeff, the staff writer, and Arnau, a fellow intern, the three go on a road trip to a coastal town. While Jeff just wants to chase after his high school crush and Arnau wants some kind of life experience, Darius spends her time with Kenneth, a man who believes that he has built a time machine. The closer they become and the more they understand about each other, the less clear it becomes if Kenneth is just crazy or if he actually is going to successfully travel back in time.

The Kid with a Bike (2012)
RT Audience Score: 76%
Awards & Nominations: 9 wins & 31 nominations
Thanks to the Dardenne brothers’ typically fine direction, The Kid with a Bike is a heart-wrenching, thematically and spiritually rich drama
The Kid with a Bike is a heart-wrenching tale of a boy searching for love and belonging, all while riding around on his trusty bicycle. The Dardenne brothers’ directing is so subtle and masterful that you won’t even realize how much it’s affecting you until the credits roll. It’s like a magic trick, but instead of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, they’re pulling tears out of your eyes. And honestly, who needs a rabbit when you have a movie this good?

Aki Kaurismäki’s deadpan wit hits a graceful note with Le Havre, a comedy/drama that’s sweet, sad, and uplifting in equal measure

The acting, special effects, and writing were excellent, except possibly the two times Xavier tries to hit on women in bars by saying they have “groovy mutation[s]”.

First Class can safely be watched by first-timers, but old faithfuls of the franchise will get a little more, tracing the origins of their favourite characters.

If you didn’t see the previous movies, you may not be able to appreciate some of the subtle references, but that won’t make you enjoy the movie any less. Check it out.

For reasons arising from the way the X-Men film franchise has developed, this is the first Marvel movie set in the period when the characters were created, and thus able to embrace the Rat Pack cool that was part of their original charm.

In truth, the film is a very conventional summer potboiler repackaged in reasonably pretty, moderately crisp wrapping paper. In short, not quite groovy enough.

In some glorious zone between Mad Men and Thunderbirds comes this X-Men prequel, as kinetic as it is character-driven, and full of ridiculous retro pleasures.

Plot
Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-MEN.
