“Thelma & Louise” is a rare thrill – a gleefully offbeat road movie in which two women, instead of the usual footloose fellas, exult in the heady freedom of America’s lonesome highways.

Critics Consensus

An affectionate throwback to 1950s creature features, Tremors reinvigorates its genre tropes with a finely balanced combination of horror and humor

Audience Consensus

Tremors is the perfect movie for those who love a good mix of horror and comedy. The practical effects are impressive, and the characters are well-developed, making it easy to root for them as they face off against giant, underground monsters. It’s like a western, but with monsters, and it’s so absurd that you can’t help but laugh. Plus, who doesn’t love a good B-movie homage? Tremors is a classic that still holds up today, and it’s definitely worth a watch.

With a deliciously wicked performance from Angelica Huston and imaginative puppetry by Jim Henson’s creature shop, Nicolas Roeg’s dark and witty movie captures the spirit of Roald Dahl’s writing like few other adaptations

The Witches” is a film that will have you laughing and screaming at the same time. It’s not for the faint of heart, but if you’re a precocious first-grader with a warped sense of humor, you’ll love it. The puppet creations are delightfully macabre, and the story is surprisingly faithful to the creepiness of the original book. It’s a slow-to-get-going adventure, but once it gets started, it’s a delectably creepy movie that’s guaranteed to keep your night lights burning bright. So grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and get ready for a spellbinding adventure with “The Witches.

Storyline

Reimagining Roald Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Robert Zemeckis’s visually innovative film tells the darkly humorous and heartwarming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving Grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks him away to a seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe-undercover-to carry out her nefarious plans. Zemeckis is joined by a world-class team of filmmakers, including Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro and Kenya Barris. The cast includes powerhouse performances from Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth and Chris Rock, with newcomer Jahzir Kadeen Bruno as the brave young hero.

Critics Consensus

Lethal Weapon 2 may sport a thin plot typical of action fare, but its combination of humor and adrenaline, along with the chemistry between its leads, make this a playful, entertaining sequel

Audience Consensus

Lethal Weapon 2 is the perfect movie for those who love action, humor, and explosions. It’s like a comic book come to life, with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as the ultimate buddy cop duo. Director Richard Donner knows how to balance the humor and the violence, making it a fun ride from start to finish. Sure, it may not be the most sophisticated movie out there, but who cares when you have nail guns being used as weapons? If you’re looking for a good time, Lethal Weapon 2 is the way to go.

Critics Consensus

Contrary to accusations of irreverence, The Last Temptation of Christ’s biggest sins are actually languid pacing and some tinny dialogue — but Martin Scorsese’s passion for the subject shines through in an oft-transcendent rumination on faith

Audience Consensus

The Last Temptation of Christ is a movie that will make you question everything you thought you knew about Jesus. It’s like a modern-day retelling of the story, but with a gritty, realistic edge. The performances are top-notch, and the direction is masterful. Sure, some people might be offended by it, but those people probably need to lighten up a bit. Overall, it’s a thought-provoking and powerful film that’s definitely worth watching.

Critics Consensus

Brilliantly bizarre and overflowing with ideas, Beetlejuice offers some of Michael Keaton’s most deliciously manic work – and creepy, funny fun for the whole family

Audience Consensus

Beetlejuice” is the kind of movie that makes you want to dance with the dead. With its wild imagination and hilarious comedy, it’s no wonder why Michael Keaton’s performance as the titular character is still iconic to this day. Sure, the story may be a bit all over the place, but who cares when you have undead football teams and Sylvia Sidney as a coach? Tim Burton’s off-the-wall audacity is on full display here, and it’s a ride that’s worth taking. Just don’t say “Beetlejuice” three times in a row, unless you want to be haunted by the ghost with the most.

Critics Consensus

Roger Donaldson’s modern spin on the dense, stylish suspense films of the 1940s features fine work from Gene Hackman and Sean Young, as well as the career-making performance that made Kevin Costner a star

Audience Consensus

No Way Out is a movie that’s like a rollercoaster ride – it starts off slow, but once it picks up speed, you’re in for a wild and thrilling ride. Sure, there are some twists and turns that might make you scratch your head, but who cares when you have Kevin Costner looking all fierce and sexy? And let’s not forget that limo sex scene – it’s the stuff of legend! So if you’re in the mood for a complex and rip-roaring suspense tale with believable people caught in a real jam, then No Way Out is the summer’s best movie for you.

Some Kind of Wonderful is above-average ’80s teen fare for people who need as much John Hughes in their lives as possible

Audience Consensus

Some Kind of Wonderful may not be the most groundbreaking film out there, but it’s still a fun and charming watch. With a cast of talented young actors, the movie tells a classic teen love triangle story with heart and humor. Plus, who doesn’t love a good ’80s soundtrack? It’s a great pick for a cozy night in with some popcorn and a group of friends.
