Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015)
RT Audience Score: 85%
Awards & Nominations: Won 1 Oscar
25 wins & 20 nominations total
Packed with action and populated by both familiar faces and fresh blood, The Force Awakens successfully recalls the series’ former glory while injecting it with renewed energy.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is like a warm hug from an old friend, but with a fresh new outfit. It’s got all the classic elements we love, but with some exciting new twists and turns. And let’s not forget about BB-8, the cutest droid in the galaxy. J.J. Abrams did the impossible and brought Star Wars back to life, and I couldn’t help but cry, laugh, and smile all at once. May the force be with you, always.

It’s both nostalgic and fresh, a tender homage to, especially, the initial Star Wars (“Episode IV: A New Hope”), as well as a bridge to help those of us stuck in the splendor of Hoth edge into the future.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens gives new life to a franchise of hope, resilience, courage and family that’s been missing from theatres for far too long.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens honors the series and takes it in exciting new directions. Both The Millennium Falcon and millennials, it would seem, are in good hands.

‘The Force Awakens’ does what the original films did well – and is also its own, thrilling thing.

Despite the copious servings of tragic threats and good feelings, the production sinks under the weight of its emotional calculation.

It all comes together nicely as the actors breathe vulnerability, fallibility and personality into their roles, with Daisy Ridley being quite the commanding presence. My favourite, hands down, is the cute and rotund droid BB-8.

I cried, I laughed, and as the film concluded I couldnt help but smile knowing that J.J. had done what many were terrified he couldnt do, he brought Star Wars back to life.

The Force Awakens loves the original trilogy so much its sometimes a little afraid to leave its side, but for what it needed, and continues, to accomplish, it’s a hard movie to really poke holes in, even if they’re evidently there.
