Mudbound offers a well-acted, finely detailed snapshot of American history whose scenes of rural class struggle resonate far beyond their period setting.
Mudbound is a film that will make you feel all the emotions. From anger to sadness to hope, this movie has it all. The performances are top-notch, and the way the story is told through multiple narrators is a stroke of genius. Sure, there are some parts that don’t quite mesh together, but overall, it’s a powerful and important film that everyone should see. Plus, it’s a great reminder that we should all be angry about injustices and strive for shared humanity, even when life throws us curveballs.

New American classic Mudbound is a reminder of the brutality of American history, of the weight of generations of institutionalized bondage and familial racism, and of the possibility of love as survival.

The film moves among these families with an effortlessness that demonstrates their sameness, while also providing an achingly relevant commentary on how notions of racial inequality prove false and inhuman.

College Movie Review
A film with so much voiceover narration shouldn’t work as well as this one does but rather than distract or splinter the narrative, it…decentraliz[es] the drama to create a spectrum of perspectives.

Mudbound is by no means a light or airy film, though. The sick-making realities of war and of racial turmoil are not overlooked.
