Enough Said is cute but restrained, despite the plethora of age jokes.

Enough Said, which is set in a Los Angeles so blandly lit that it barely seems to be playing itself, is a movie that seems made to be watched on On Demand (or on an airplane).

On its own, ‘Enough Said’ is a sweet and charming little movie – but there’s no question the loss of its beloved leading man lends the picture extra, unexpected pathos.

The film contains Gandolfini’s final lead role, but his performance is cherishably un-final: easy, open and insisting on nothing, it’s the work of a man who is just getting started.

Helping anchor affairs, though, is the bear-like Gandolfini, who brings charm and gravitas to a movie that might otherwise have seemed very superficial.

These are the subjects that Holofcener does exceptionally well — the myopia, vanity and insecurities of the moderately privileged.

Enough Said is filled with the kind of rich and rewarding characters that most actors and actresses nearing 50 hope to still be able to find.

Enough Said is a delightful and charming romantic comedy, one that avoids most of the clichés of the genre as it covers dating later in life, rather than treading the familiar waters of young love blossoming.

Holofcener finds the comedy in mid-life troubles without exploiting or making light of them, or being too bleak, and in so doing creates a very realistic portrait of a group of adults on the brink of major changes. [TOP 50 OF THE DECADE]
