Critics Consensus

Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise is a blood-soaked, gore-filled, and utterly delightful horror extravaganza that will leave you both exhilarated and disgusted. With outstanding callbacks to the franchise and a groovy cast, this film is a crowd-pleasing new chapter that opens the door to a connected universe uniting the previous films and series. While some critics may argue that it lacks originality, it’s clear that Cronin knows exactly what he’s doing, and he does it with po-faced earnestness. From the exceptionally crafted and cast characters to the creatively fun kills, Evil Dead Rise is a rare franchise sequel that is as good as the original. So, grab your chainsaw and get ready for a wild ride!

Audience Consensus

Evil Dead Rise is the perfect movie for those who love gore, horror, and a good time. The director, Lee Cronin, delivers a rollercoaster ride of blood and guts that will leave you exhilarated. The callbacks to the original franchise are outstanding, and the creative kills are both disgusting and fun. The characters are easy to care about, and the tension is unrelenting. This movie is not for the faint of heart, but for horror fans, it’s a must-see. So grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and get ready for Evil Dead, baby!

Critics Consensus

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a cinematic masterpiece that transcends the superhero genre and delivers a poignant and emotional story that will leave audiences in tears. James Gunn’s direction is impeccable, balancing humor and heart with ease, and completing Rocket’s transformation into one of Marvel’s greatest characters. While some may find the first 90 minutes to be a bit of a slog, the real energy kicks in and the film takes off into the stratosphere. The soundtrack is perfectly curated, enhancing the already stunning visuals and adding to the emotional weight of the story. This film is a fitting farewell to the Guardians and to James Gunn, who has left an indelible mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Audience Consensus

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the perfect mix of heart, humor, and action. James Gunn really outdid himself with this one, giving Rocket the spotlight he deserves and completing his transformation into one of Marvel’s greatest characters. Sure, the first 90 minutes can be a bit of a slog, but once the real energy kicks in, you’ll be on the edge of your seat. And let’s not forget about the awesome soundtrack that perfectly complements the film’s epic moments. Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a tearfully moving and bonkers hilarious conclusion to the trilogy that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

Critics Consensus

Sick of Myself is a film that delves into the dark and twisted world of self-promotion and the lengths people will go to for attention. While some critics found the satire too crude and the targets too scattershot, others praised the committed performance from Kujath Thorp and the uncomfortable truths it reveals about our attention-craving society. The film’s pitch-black humor and nihilistic tone may not be for everyone, but it certainly leaves a lasting impression. As Kristoffer Borgli’s film runs out of things to say, it still manages to make audiences think twice about their own self-promotion and social media habits. Overall, Sick of Myself is a thought-provoking and insightful commentary on the nature of fame and narcissism in the age of social media.

Audience Consensus

Sick of Myself is like a rollercoaster ride that you’re not sure you want to be on, but once you’re strapped in, you can’t look away. The film takes a dark and twisted look at our obsession with self-promotion and social media, and it’s not afraid to make you uncomfortable. While some critics found it too crude or scatter-shot, I found it to be a scathing and insightful critique of our attention-hungry society. Plus, any movie that can make bandaged smoking look uncomfortably funny is worth a watch in my book.

Tantura dives into a man’s struggle to reckon with events that some may call means to freedom and others a massacre — the birth story of many, if not all, civilizations.

Audience Consensus

Tantura takes you on a wild ride through a dude’s journey to come to terms with some pretty intense stuff. Some folks might see it as a path to liberation, while others might call it a total bloodbath. Either way, it’s a tale as old as time – the origin story of pretty much every civilization out there. Get ready to have your mind blown!

When “Tantura” finally moves into its final act, the wider emotional ripple effects of its subject matter are difficult to avoid, as the question shifts from what is remembered to who is allowed to remember (and be remembered) in the first place.  December 1, 2022 | Rating: B-

Plot
Israelis call it “The War of Independence,” and Palestinians call it, “Al-Nakba” (The Catastrophe). This is the story of the 1948 war between Jews and Palestinians, and the silencing of graduate student Teddy Katz who in the late 1990’s exposed an alleged massacre that took place in the Palestinian village of Tantura only one week after the founding of the state of Israel.

Return to Seoul is one of those movies that really gets you in the feels. It’s all about this one woman’s journey, but it speaks to something deeper in all of us. You know, that whole human condition thing. The filmmakers really nailed it with this one. It’s like they’re psychic or something. Anyway, if you’re looking for a movie that will make you laugh, cry, and maybe even question your existence, this is the one for you.

Strange World is a Disney milestone in terms of representation — but as a storytelling experience, this dazzlingly animated adventure offers little audiences haven’t already seen.

It’s lovely to look at and the story has its moments, but all in all, Strange World falls short of Disney’s finest.

Critics Consensus

The film “Food and Romance” may not be a Michelin-starred masterpiece, but it certainly has its charms. The lively ensemble performances and magnificent production design give the film a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it easy to overlook its predictable plot. Director Appelin’s approach may follow a well-worn path, but he throws in enough surprises to keep audiences engaged from start to finish. The concept of food bringing people together is a romantic one, and the chemistry between the two leads is lovely. While the film may not be a gourmet feast, it’s certainly a satisfying and enjoyable meal. Bon appétit!

Audience Consensus

Food and Romance is the perfect movie for a cozy night in with your significant other, or for a solo night with a bottle of wine and some takeout. The chemistry between the two leads is undeniable, and the food they cook up will have your mouth watering. Sure, the plot may be a bit predictable, but who cares when you’re enjoying a charming and feel-good movie like this? Plus, the production design is absolutely stunning, making you feel like you’re right there in the kitchen with them. So grab a fork and dig in to Food and Romance!
