Time has been kind to this horror legend: Freaks manages to frighten, shock, and even touch viewers in ways that contemporary viewers missed.
Freaks is a classic horror film that will make you feel all sorts of emotions. From terror to sympathy, this movie has it all. The story is about a group of “freaks” who are actually the most human characters in the film. The director, Tod Browning, did an amazing job of creating a sense of community among these characters, despite their differences. The performances are strong and the tenderness in the film is surprising. If you’re looking for a horror movie that will make you think, Freaks is the one for you. Just be prepared for some shocking and unsettling moments!

Perhaps less a true film than a series of star-studded vignettes, Grand Hotel still remains an entertaining look back at a bygone Hollywood era
Grand Hotel is a classic Hollywood film that’s a must-watch for anyone who loves a good ensemble cast. The performances are top-notch, and the production values are impressive, especially considering the film’s age. Sure, it may be a bit creaky and overlong, but that’s all part of its charm. Plus, who doesn’t love seeing what screen glamour used to be like? If you’re in the mood for a bit of old-school Hollywood magic, Grand Hotel is the perfect choice. Just don’t expect any modern-day explosions or superheroes.

Relying more on mood and atmosphere than the thrills typical of modern horror fare, Universal’s The Mummy sets a masterful template for mummy-themed films to follow
If you’re looking for a movie that’s equal parts spooky and silly, The Mummy is the perfect pick. Sure, the story might be a bit hocus-pocus, but Boris Karloff’s performance as Im-Ho-Tep is worth the watch alone. Plus, who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned monster movie? RT Audience Score: 80%

A classic. The definitive version of the Robert Louis Stevenson novella from 1931, with innovative special effects, atmospheric cinematography and deranged overacting
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic tale of a man struggling with his inner demons, but let’s be real, the real star of the show is the camera work and special effects. The transformation scenes are both impressive and hilarious, especially when you realize they used the same trick four times. And don’t even get me started on the overacting – it’s so deranged it’s almost charming. But in all seriousness, the film does a great job of exploring themes of sexual frustration and shame, even if it is a bit campy at times. Overall, it’s a pleasantly unpleasant picture that’s worth a watch.

One seeks in vain for an adequate development in this film of the powerful psychology which must remain the essential motive of such a fantasy as Stevenson created. A mere succession of incidents does not furnish this study.

Fredric March, ably assisted by Miriam Hopkins and Rose Hobart, is magnificent as Hyde, and he gives Jekyll a stilted Victorian elegance which, being a little false, makes Hyde’s existence seem more credible.

Camera trick of changing a central figure from the handsome Fredric March into the bestial, ape-like monster Hyde, carries a terrific punch, but in each successive use of the device — and it is repeated four times — it weakens in hair-raising effort.

A landmark psychological thriller with arresting images, deep thoughts on modern society, and Peter Lorre in his finest performance.
This flick is a total mind-bender! It’s got some seriously trippy visuals, and it’ll make you think about the world we live in. Plus, Peter Lorre absolutely kills it in this one. He’s at the top of his game, and you won’t be able to take your eyes off him. If you’re in the mood for a movie that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat and make you ponder the meaning of life, this is the one for you.

Plot
There have been a rash of child abductions and murders in Berlin. The murderer lures the children into his confidence by candy and other such child friendly items. Everyone is on edge because the murderer has not been caught. The most substantial pieces of evidence the police have are hand written letters by the murderer which he sent to the newspaper for publication. Unknown even to himself, a blind beggar, who sold the murderer a balloon for one of the child victims, may have key information as to the murderer’s identity. The murder squad’s work is made even more difficult with the large number of tips they receive from the paranoid public, who are quick to accuse anyone of suspicious activity solely for their own piece of mind that someone – anyone – is apprehended for the heinous crimes. Conversely, many want to take the case into their own hands, including the town’s leading criminals since the increased police presence has placed a strain on their ability to conduct criminal activity. Although they both have the same end goal of capturing the murderer, the police and the criminals seem to be working at cross purposes, which may provide an edge to the murderer in getting away.

Maedchen in Uniform is a cinematic masterpiece that captures the essence of schoolgirl spirit amidst repressive conditions. The film’s naturalness of manner and youthful performances are adroitly portrayed, making it a photoplay gem among gems. Director Leontine Sagan avoids the abyss of false sentimentality and unpleasantness, delivering a thought-provoking film with a strange charm and sensitive touch. The casting is skillfully done, and the scenes are authentic, making it one of the most successful and important motion pictures to come out of the German studios. Maedchen in Uniform is a requiem for what was and a warning for what was to come, as timely and urgent as ever.
Who knew a movie about schoolgirls could be so captivating? Maedchen in Uniform is a gem among gems, with natural acting, keen direction, and superb camera work that make it a must-see. The film is a beautifully conceived drama that handles a sensitive subject with a strange charm and thought-provoking touch. And let’s not forget the adorbs schoolgirl spirit that bubbles even under repressive conditions. It’s a film that will leave you satisfied and wanting more.
