Stanley Donen was an American film director and choreographer best known for his musicals with Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, such as Singin’ in the Rain (1952) and On the Town (1949). He was a pioneer in the use of dance in film and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for his work on the 1957 musical film Funny Face. Donen also directed the romantic comedy Charade (1963) and the musical comedy Bedazzled (1967). He received an Honorary Academy Award in 1998 for his lifetime achievements.
